Change the resolution in VRChat

If you use VRChat, you may want to change your screen resolution. While it’s not entirely difficult to change, you’ll need to make a few tweaks by typing in some command lines. It’s not just a few taps in your settings; luckily it’s a simple process. Follow the steps below to learn how to do this:

  1. Log in to your Steam account.
  2. Navigate to your Steam “Library” and select “VRChat”.
  3. Right-click on it and choose “Properties” from the drop-down menu.
  4. You need to type a command line in the “Launch Options” window. You have 3 different options:
    • For 1080p, type “-screen-width 1920 -screen-height 1080”.
    • For 720p, type “-screen-width 1280 -screen-height 720”.
    • Type for 4k”-screen-width 3840 -screen-height 2160”.
  5. Close the box by tapping the “X” in the top right corner.
  6. Launch VRChat.

Once you open VRChat, your screen resolution will be changed to the one you selected.

After making the appropriate change, you also have the option to adjust VRChat’s graphics settings. Changes to these settings are minor, but you may find them to your liking. You are free to adjust and test these settings to see if they improve your experience.

Follow these steps to adjust your VRChat graphics settings.

  1. Start VRChat and open the “Menu”.
  2. Click on ‘Security’ in the choices at the top of the screen.
  3. Select ‘Performance Options’.
  4. Choose ‘Advanced Images’.
  5. By clicking the “Left/Right” arrows you can make your selections for “Graphics Quality” and “Multisample Antialiasing”.

Graphics quality settings adjust different graphics profiles. Making adjustments to these settings will generally not result in major differences in game quality or performance.

Multi-sample Antialiasing adjusts your anti-aliasing strength. The default value is 4x. Increasing strength can affect VRAM usage. Lowering or disabling it may increase performance.
