Southwest Airlines (LUV) been a disruptor in the aviation sector. The company, which is more than 50 years old, has not committed to doing things the way its rivals have always done. That’s a pretty liberating approach in an industry that has generally operated with a monopoly mentality.
Most airlines pretend that customers have little choice, because in the past they often didn’t. They may treat elite first- and business-class fliers well, but those of us who make the occasional trip get stuck paying baggage fees and being charged extra for a seat assignment.
