The supporters of Labor Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, popularly known as Obidients, have responded to the statement by a former governor of Anambra, Arthur Eze, condemning Obi’s ambition to run for president in 2023.

Eze said on Monday he had warned Obi not to run for the country’s highest political office, noting that he had told him he would not win, and therefore would not support him.

The Anambra-born billionaire said this during the 2022 Ofala festival of His Royal Highness Igwe Robert Eze, the traditional ruler of Ukpo in the Dunukofia local government area of the state.

“I warned Peter Obi to pull out of this race, but he wouldn’t listen. I told him flat out that I am not part of his plans. I told him to give up his ambition… I told him he couldn’t win; so that he wouldn’t waste his time and money,” Eze said yesterday.

Responding to Eze’s statement, Obidients said that Obi is not running for the Southeast region dominated by Igbo people, but rather is vying to become the Nigerian people’s president to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

They said Obi, a Nigerian project needs the support not only of Igbo politicians to run for president, but that of the Nigerian voters who make up its political fabric.

Leading the conversation on the microblogging site, Cardinal Francis Arinze said Eze’s position was a strong indication that next year’s election is a battle between the poor masses and the wealthy politicians.

Francis Cardinal Arinze @C_FrancisArinze tweeted: “Mr Arthur Eze’s comment about Peter Obi is a clear sign that the 2023 election will be a battle between rich and poor, young and old.

“If our Nigerian youths fail to take back their country by 2023, they will experience the worst oppression ever.

It’s a long road to proving that Peter Obi isn’t an Igbo or Anambra project. He is a Nigerian project. Vote for Peter Obi for a better Nigeria.”

When Peter Obi said that as governor of Anambra state the great men of Igbo did not like his government because he worked for the people, he was referring to men like Arthur Eze. PO is a Nigerian project and all he needs is NIGERIANS support to make him president . Obidients we move💯,” said NKEM #PeterObi2023 @Nkenchor_

Pastor Idowu Bankole @Olubankoleidowu added, “Arthur Eze is only one man; we, the poor masses, are in great numbers and Peter Obi has often repeated that we are his structure. Whether Obi receives support from the Igbo brothers or not, we have decided to stand with him and ensure that the country changes for the better.”

CHYBS ⫸ @chybxo commented: “Arthur Eze then opposed Obi and even Obiano’s governorship, Soludo has always been his man. Without Arthur Eze’s support, Peter Obi would have been governor, and Peter Obi doesn’t need him for president! Starting next year, they’ll all have President Peter Obi’s picture on their wall.”
