The Middle Belt Forum, MBF, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to try to finish strong by leaving Nigerians with transparent and credible elections in 2023.

The Forum noted that the current government, which has given high expectations to Nigerians in 2015, has fallen short of popular expectations, but can correct itself by ensuring that the upcoming elections meet Nigerians’ expectations.

The national president of MBF, Dr. Bitrus Pogu, said in Makurdi on Sunday that “the remaining days of this government should be spent doing the right thing.

“The government must ensure that Nigerians’ votes count in the upcoming crucial elections, that is the expectation of all Nigerians.

“In addition to ensuring that the upcoming elections are credible, free and transparent, the government should also use this remaining time to ensure Nigerian crude oil theft is controlled to address declining revenues.

“We want the government to ensure security across the country so that Nigerians can come out and vote without fear.

“The current government owes it a responsibility to ensure that it addresses the ongoing insecurity before the arrival of the new government in May.

“While this government has not lived up to the expectations of the Nigerians, the government must bequeath strong institutions to the incoming government to get that government off to a good start.”
