If you find Instagram too toxic or just want to spend more time with the people you love in real life, you may have wondered if there is a method to disable the app. Everyone should take a break from social media once in a while.

Regardless of the cause, there are two options available if you want to stop using Instagram. You can deactivate your Instagram account forever and never return, or you can take a short break. If you choose to pause, you can reactivate your account later.

This article will teach you everything you need to know about disabling your Instagram account.

How to disable Instagram

Instagram advises users to disable their accounts before permanently deleting them. If you do this, you will still be able to retrieve your profile and all your data. Temporarily deactivating your account is easy. However, you cannot do this from within the Instagram application. You must log in to your account using a desktop browser.

Here’s how to temporarily disable your Instagram account:

  1. Log in and click on your profile picture in the top right corner of the screen.
  2. Choose Edit Profile.
  3. Scroll down and click “Temporarily deactivate my account” in the bottom right corner of the screen.
  4. If you are asked for a reason for disabling an account, choose an answer.
  5. Enter your password again.
  6. Select ‘Temporarily deactivate account’.

Your followers won’t see any of your posts if you follow these steps. No one can access your profile until you enable your account by logging in again.

How to disable Instagram roles

Reels are engaging, immersive videos that help you artistically communicate your brand story, educate your audience, and attract new customers. There is no easy way to disable Instagram reels. To get rid of reels, you need to change the way you use Instagram.

Use the browser to access Instagram

The best way to avoid Instagram reels is to use Instagram in your browser. Unlike the Instagram app, the Instagram browser version doesn’t have this feature (yet). You can log in with any browser, including Google Chrome, Mozilla, and others. You can use Instagram without reels once you are logged in. The browser experience may not be as fast as the Instagram app. The alternatives below can be considered if you miss the original app.

Use the older Instagram version on your Android

Since there is no option to disable Instagram Reels in the app, the only way to prevent it from appearing in your news feed is to install an older version of Instagram on your device. Follow the steps below to download an older version of the app:

  1. To get started, use your browser to download and download this Instagram APK file. Other versions older than this should also work. Be careful when downloading anything from the Internet and research thoroughly to make sure you don’t install a malicious program.
  2. Next, on your home screen, tap on the “Settings” app.
  3. Select the “Biometrics and Security” tab in the “Settings” menu. The name of this tab may differ depending on your phone model. Then choose ‘Install unknown apps’.
  4. Finally, select the browser from which you downloaded the APK file and select “Allow from this source.”

To install the software, open the APK file you downloaded and follow the on-screen steps. Relaunch Instagram to see if the roles have been removed. Installing an older version of Instagram serves as a workaround for removing Reels. For that reason, you should make sure that the Play Store does not automatically upgrade the application as this would restore the function.

Follow the instructions below to prevent the Google Play Store from updating Instagram:

  1. Open your Play Store, find and click on the Instagram app.
  2. Select the “three dots” icon in the top right corner of your page.
  3. Disable the “Enable automatic update” option.

Now this solution will remove Reels on Instagram as long as the Instagram version loaded on your phone is still accessible to their servers. You have no choice but to accept reels if Instagram chooses to force you to update the app.

Unfortunately, unlike Android, it is difficult to install previous versions of a program on an iOS device. This includes a jailbreak, which is a complex operation with several potential problems if you’re not familiar with it.

Try Instagram Lite

Instagram Lite does not currently support reels. This feature may be added soon, but nothing is said about it for now. Instagram Lite can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, and you can enjoy Instagram without reels.

How to turn off Instagram calls

It can be quite tedious to find a technique to ignore a call that comes in at an inconvenient time. Anyone who can message you on Instagram also has the option to call you via voice or video. Usually these are people who follow you or who have tried to communicate with you before, but without success.

Plus, when you’re on the go, every call you receive consumes mobile data. You can prevent this by blocking voice and video calls from certain followers, turning off notifications, or using Do Not Disturb.

Turn off video calls

Not everyone is happy with the video calling feature enabled. If you are one of those individuals who want more privacy, you can turn off incoming video calls on Instagram. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Launch the Instagram app.
  2. Navigate to your profile in the bottom right corner.
  3. Choose the hamburger menu in the top right corner.
  4. Go to Settings.”
  5. Choose “Notifications.”
  6. Click on ‘Direct messages and calls’.
  7. Find ‘Video chats’ and tap ‘Off’.

You can personalize your Instagram messaging experience with just a few clicks, so you never have to worry about getting a message from a stranger or someone you don’t follow. It’s an extra layer of privacy that some people may choose for peace of mind.

Turn off audio calls

Follow these simple steps to disable the audio calling feature:

  1. Launch the Instagram app.
  2. Navigate to ‘Settings’. Look for “Call Settings” and turn it off.

This option is also available in the “Voice and video” section of your phone’s settings. This will disable audio calling for the entire Instagram app.

How to disable Instagram suggested posts

Instagram can help you find new things by recommending posts. Therefore, you may choose to follow that account after seeing a post from a related account you already follow. Suggested posts appear in your feed after the most recent posts from the people you follow.

Instagram suggests content based on accounts you currently follow, as well as content that is related or similar to content you like or save. While many people find the recommended Instagram posts on their feed useful for broadening their interests, some find them annoying.

To disable Instagram’s suggested posts:

  1. Launch the Instagram app and scroll down until Posts appear.
  2. Click on the three dots next to the message.
  3. Press “Hide”. Instagram will no longer display as many posts as this one.
  4. You can choose to tap a reason to customize the suggestions for your upcoming suggested posts. If you change your mind, you can also tap Undo.

Depending on your location, there may also be a button labeled “Snooze all suggested posts in the feed for 30 days”. Select this option if you don’t want to see Instagram’s suggested posts for a month.

How to disable Instagram from Facebook

Follow these steps to disable or unlink your Instagram account from your Facebook account:

  1. Go to Facebook’s “Settings” page.
  2. Choose “Apps and websites” under “Security”.
  3. Choose Instagram.
  4. Click “Delete”. Choose “Delete” again when prompted.
