Riyad Mahrez came off the bench to blast Manchester City to a 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The win was crucial for the Citizens as it saw them cut the deficit to Premier League leaders Arsenal to five points.

Held to a draw by Everton on New Year’s Eve, City faced more frustration against an injury-stricken but enterprising Chelsea side at Stamford Bridge.

But less than three minutes after coming on as a substitute with an hour left, Jack Grealish set up Mahrez for the winner, leaving Arsenal within reach.

The loss marked another defeat for Chelsea, still largely disappointing under Graham Potter but giving City many problems, especially in the first half.

However, the defeat pushed the London side to 10th in the table as their hopes of a top-four finish fade with each match.
