The Chief of Staff (COAS), Lieutenant Gen. Faruk Yahaya has approved the redeployment of senior officers in an effort to ensure administrative and operational efficiency in the Nigerian Army (NA).

The Army’s Director of Public Relations, Brig-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu said in a statement on Saturday that the new posts and appointments were intended to maintain recent operational successes made in combating emerging security challenges in the country.

Nwachukwu said the affected officers are major general and brigadier general, in addition to several other senior officers in army formations and units.

He added that those involved in the reshuffle include some Army Headquarters Chief Staff Officers, Corps Commanders, Commanders of Army Training Institutes, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers and several others.

In the new appointment, Nwachukwu said the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Ali, moves to the northeast as theater commander Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK).

He said the head of training (army), Major General. Abdulsalam Ibrahim had been appointed as GOC 3 Division and as Commander Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) while Major General. AS Chinade would move from Headquarters 2 Division to Headquarters 82 Division as GOC.

He said Maj.-Gen. GM Mutkut was appointed the GOC 8 Division and Commander Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) of the Army Headquarters Policy and Plan Department.

“Those newly appointed corps commanders are the former theater commander, OPHK, Major General. Christopher Musa, as the new Corps Commander of the Infantry Corps while Major General. MS Ahmed moves to the Nigerian Army Armored Corps Headquarters as Corps Commander.

“Maj.-Gen. BR Sinjen moves from the Nigerian Army School of Artillery to the Headquarters of the Nigerian Army Corps Artillery as the new Corps Commander, and Major General. PE Eromosele moves to the headquarters of the Nigerian Army Engineers as Commander of the National Defense College.

“Also, Major General. AA Ayannuga moves to Nigerian Army Cyber ​​Warfare Command as Commander while Major General. GS Abdullahi moves from Defense Space Administration to Headquarters Nigerian Army Signals.

“Among the new Chief Staff Officers of Defense and Army Headquarters are Major Generals. Solomon Udounwa who has been transferred from Army Headquarters Special Services and Programs Division to Defense Headquarters as Chief of Defense Training and Operations.

“Maj.-Gen. SG Mohammed has been appointed Head of Training, Major General. UT Musa moved from Headquarters 82 Division to the Department of Army Administration as Director Personnel Management, while Maj.-Gen. Y Yahaya from Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade will move to the Department of Army Administration as Director Manpower (Army), among others,” he said.

Nwachukwu said Brig-Gen. TI Gusau has been appointed Director of Defense Information while Brig-Gen. AM Umar was appointed the new Commander of the Guards Brigade.

According to him, other brigade commanders who have been redeployed include Brig-Gen. S Aliyu from Headquarters 6 Division to Headquarters 63 Brigade, while Brig-Gen. HD Bobbo moves from National Defense College to Headquarters 31 Brigade.

“Brig-Gen. MT Aminu moves from Army War College Nigeria to Headquarters 35 Brigade, among others.

“It is imperative to note that redeployment in the Nigerian Army is routine, especially with the recent promotion of senior officers as approved by the Army Council for the year 2022.

“The reshuffling of all appointees will take effect on January 11,” he added. (NAN)
