Shina Abubakar, Osogbo
As the petition court for the governorship resumes on Friday so parties can take their written speeches, the All Progressives Congress, APC and the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, have engaged in blame games over a plot to attack the court.
The APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, issued by the party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Olabisi, urged the State Police Command and other sister security units to strengthen security around the tribunal to prevent possible attacks by miscreants that some politicians prevent work.
While praising the efforts of the security authorities since the inception of the tribunal, he stressed the need for the order of the state police and its sister security forces to strengthen security inside and outside the Supreme Court buildings, the location of the tribunal, with the to nip violence in the bud by some disgruntled politicians.
In his words, “Let me appeal to the Osun State Police Command and other sister security agencies in the state not to treat lightly the issue of security inside and outside the tribunal”.
However, the PDP said in a statement issued by its chairman, Akindele Adekunle, that it was the APC that planned to attack the courthouse where the tribunal sits and plans to hang the attack on other parties.
It reads: “Our attention has been drawn to a false alarm from the opposition All Progressives Congress about an alleged plot to attack the state Supreme Court by mobsters. We want to alert the public that APC has used a subterfuge to even out accusations about a plot it has perfected.
“We therefore call on the police commissioner to invite the acting chairman of APC and the media adviser for questioning. The duo likely have insight into the alleged plot to disrupt the Tribunal. Their testimonies will assist the police in maintaining law and order.
“We also take this opportunity to reassure the public that the state government has the situation under control. No opposition party should turn Osun into a battlefield. Tomorrow’s meeting will be peaceful and we are confident that the Tribunal will ultimately validate and confirm the election of Senator Ademola Adeleke as Governor of Osun State.”
